Nap time and Recess

So there is this thing that I know for a fact that no one used to like when they were a kid. NAP TIME! I know I really hated naps because I would be playing with my toys in the middle of the day at daycare or after morning church and then I would hear “It’s nap time!” My heart would sink to the pit of my stomach because I knew I would have to stop playing.

I would have to lay down knowing I was not tired and think about what I was going to play with when I was allowed to get up, and before  I knew it, I would be off into dream land. I really miss those days because I had no worries at all. Now that I am in college full time and work full time, me and naps are best friends. I long for the next time in my day when I can close my eyes for just a couple of hours to get some sleep.

Something I know we used to love was RECESS!! Our teachers would make us line up at the door and we would be itching with anticipation to see who could get on the swings or jungle gym first. Then we would walk slowly and what would seem like 20 miles to the playground and then the teacher would give us the okay. Everyone would run in every different direction.

It was the best feeling being outside and not having to do school work even though it was just learning letters or basic math. I know kids don’t realize how good they have it until they are in college in my situation. Even though every two years of my younger years I broke a bone on the playground, I still loved my recess. I really do miss those days and I’m pretty sure if you are human, you miss them too. Haha

I Ate That?? And Liked IT??

So back in the day there were a few choice foods and snacks that I enjoyed that used to be a must to have in my lunch box. Having the best snacks on the playground meant that you were the most popular person in the class. This was only because everyone wanted to get a piece or the whole thing of what you had. Many of these foods and snacks were really unhealthy and may have had a lot of sugar, but calories or saturated fats when you are a kid.

The first thing that comes to mind when I think about what was my favorite snack to have in my lunch box was "Dunkaroos." They were one of my favorites just because they had these graham cracker mini cookies with a cup of icing with sprinkles that you dipped it in. Sometimes I would eat all the cookies without dipping it just so I could eat the icing all by itself.  I still cannot believe I did that.

The next snack I loved when I was little was “Fruit by the Foot. It was the best just because I was so short back then, so when I put the end of the Fruit by the Foot in my mouth and then let it unroll itself down my body, it would almost hit the floor. When a classmate of mine had one, we would race to see how fast we could eat it.

Lastly a snack I loved to have in my lunch box was Danimals yogurt. It was so cool because you could just drink it. Drinking yogurt was cool because it was not the normal way to eat it. They also had really good flavors that I still love. I have to admit that I do drink to this day Yoplait drinkable yogurt.

Those are just a few of my favorite snacks that I used to eat.  Respond if you have a favorite snack you used to eat or a combination of foods that you ate as a child.

Nickelodeon

Do you remember when you were younger and all you wanted to watch on television was cartoons? They had all of your favorite shows on there like Blues Clues, Allegra’s Window, Gullah Gullah Island, Rupert, Little Bear, Franklin, and many more. You knew all the words to the introduction to those shows and those shows always had a valuable lesson to be learned at the end of it.
I grew up in Hawaii so in elementary was really fun, but I would fake sick sometimes just to watch those shows I loved. I don’t know if any one remembers but that channel never had outside commercials either. That channel had a narrator that introduces every show called “Face” and he would be different colors each time he came on the screen. It was never a boring show when you were watching Nick Jr.
Then growing up there were shows on the Nickelodeon  that I know everyone remembers. Shows such as Hey Dude, Camp Anawana, All that, Figure it Out, Double Dare, Guts, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Clarissa Explains it All, and many more. Watching those shows as a child made me want to be a pre-teen so bad because they had interesting lives. The drama they went through that always had a happy ending gave me a false sense of what life at that age was really about, but it was still all the more entertaining.
Walking back down this part of memory lane may remind you of some shows that you used to watch also. Reply to this blog with some of the shows you used to watch and what you liked about them.
Below are a few youtube clips of some of my favorite shows of the 90's.
